Orff Ensemble

Orff is a genre of music and a method of music instruction that makes extensive use of percussion instruments, immitation and movement. This method was developed by Carl Orff in the early twentieth century.  The Orff method is very effective in developing a student's music skills using specially designed Orff instruments to teach important concepts such as beat and rhythm, phrasing, and ensemble playing with multi-layered textures and sonorities. Students learn the basics of music, while preparing fun pieces for an end-of-term performance.

Class time Fridays 7:30am - 8:20am
Prerequisites No music experience is needed. 3rd-5th grade.
Fee $240 - 16 weeks

Ensembles

One of the most enjoyable experiences in music is to play with others in an ensemble.  New friendships are formed and new repertoire explored.  Adults have an opportunity to put aside the workday and relax by making music.  Young people have a chance to enhance what is learned in private lessons by applying their new skills in a performance group. The ACMS ensemble program matches students of similar ability with a coach to help the group learn and prepare pieces for performance.

Your registration in a coached ensemble includes:

  • Being matched with other musicians and placement in an ensemble
  • Recommended pieces to study and perform by your coach
  • Weekly 60 minute coaching sessions for the 16 week term
  • End-of-term recital and other performance opportunites in the community

We are now organizing the following ensembles:

  • Early music ensembles: recorders and other baroque winds and strings
  • String trios/quartets and larger ensembles
  • Piano/Keyboard trios/quartets/quintets
  • Children's recorder choir

Ensembles are created as students express interest.  We keep an ongoing list of students who are interested in ensemble playing.  To get on our ensemble list, click on this link and fill out our ensemble request form or contact us at the school and we will get you set up.

Class Times Monday through Saturday based on ensemble coach and student availability.
Prerequisites Students must attend a placement audition.  Contact the office to schedule a placement audition.

$320 per student for 16 weeks
